Sustain staff have completed the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment's (IEMA) training course and have implemented ISO14001 for public and private sector clients.
Organisations are discovering that the best way to manage their environmental impacts and the associated risks is through an Environmental Management System (EMS).
The EMS is simply a management tool that:
- systematically assesses environmental impacts and legal obligations
- decides which impacts are most significant
- improves environmental performance through tools such as producing auditable environmental policy
- develops environmental management programmes with clear
objectives and targets
- checks and controls procedures to ensure smooth operation of the EMS and that the organisation meets its environmental objectives
Organisations can get assurance that their EMS is of a high quality and can gain competitive advantage if their EMS meets one of the agreed standards such as ISO14001: 2004 or the European standard, EMAS. All the most commonly used standards are very similar and are well integrated.
