CERT funding for communal boiler rooms

SmartHeat Programme

Fully funded flange and valve insulation for housing.

This unique CERT registered programme enables housing landlords to make significant fuel savings year-on-year and reduce their carbon emissions through a quick, straightforward and effective process.  Best of all it can be fitted for no cost through Sustain.

how does it work?

By insulating flanges and valves in communal boiler rooms with custom-made insulating jackets, each boiler room can make annual savings of up to £2,000 in otherwise wasted energy.

A thermal video of the valve insulation working can be seen here.

why is it worthwhile?

Improving insulation is simple and cost-effective.  Valves are often overlooked when insulating heating systems, however each un-insulated flange or valve is equivalent to about a metre of exposed pipe, which in terms of energy loss, is roughly equivalent to leaving a 100W light bulb running.  This soon adds up and the result is that by insulating a single boiler room you can make genuine savings of hundreds if not thousands of pounds per annum.

what is the process?

The SmartHeat programme includes an initial boiler room survey and a detailed energy saving report.  We then supply and fit tailor-made insulation jackets for long term energy savings.  This entire process is quick to put in place and fully funded - therefore completely free of charge.

how can it be free of charge?

By partnering with an energy supplier with a commitment to helping reduce carbon emissions under the government's 'Carbon Emission Reduction Target' or CERT, Sustain can access full funding for you and will manage the programme from start to finish.

who is eligible?

The programme covers communal boiler rooms that heat sheltered accommodation and general usage flats.

what are the benefits?

  • A Fully Funded Programme:
Boiler room survey, energy saving report and insulation fitted completely free of charge.

All that is required to commence the programme are two brief documents signed off and posted to us and an emailed site list. The installation itself is a brief, non-intrusive process with no disruption to the boiler operation.  With a dedicated operations team, all site access for our experienced surveyors is arranged and managed by ourselves, so there is minimum impact on your workload.
  • Quality Products:
Our jackets are manufactured from quality materials and conform to BS5422.  They are specifically designed to ensure easy access to pipework with Velcro and drawstring fastenings.

Testimonials

"I've never had such good feedback from our Scheme Managers and Surveyors, Sustain's management of the SmartHeat service gives us total confidence that the work will be carried out to the highest standards."

Kirstie Johnson, Senior Energy Manager - Anchor Trust

"Excellent and trouble free service - Very Impressed."

Bob Barnes, Risk & Environmental Manager - Colchester Borough Council

"I have been and inspected the three sites - and can confirm that everything is wonderful - particularly the Woodland Road site. Normally when you walk down the stairs to the boiler house you would think you were walking into a sauna room. Today, it was warm but remarkably cooler than before the work was completed."

Michael Straughair, Durham County Council

"Very happy with the complete organisation and works carried out. I was always kept updated with progress and installations were carried out with no disruption to heating. On behalf of Ealing Homes I would thank all involved."

Paul Debono, London Borough of Ealing
