Compliance based Display Energy Certificates (DECs) for Public Sector Buildings
From 1 October 2008, public sector occupiers of buildings over
1000sqm have been required to display a Display Energy Certificate
in a prominent place clearly visible to the public.
A Display Energy Certificate shows the energy performance of a
building based on actual energy consumption and is updated
annually. An Advisory Report which details possible
improvements to the building will accompany the DEC and will need
to be updated every 7 years. All DECs and Advisory Reports
need to be produced by an accredited Energy Assessor. Property
managers affected by this legislation will need to keep records of
annual energy meter readings in order to produce their
certificate.
Sustain provide DECs and Advisory Reports quickly and efficiently,
produced by our in-house team of accredited Energy Assessors.
We give advice and assistance on exactly what you need to do to
help us produce your certificate, and have created over 1200 DECs
for our clients in the following sectors:
- Schools / Colleges / Universities
- NHS Buildings
- Offices
- Local Government Buildings (Libraries / Museums / Theatres)
- Sports and Leisure Buildings
We also offer detailed guidance about which energy saving measures
would be suitable to help improve the energy rating of your
building for subsequent ratings.
More information about DECs can be found on the Communities and
Local Government website Energy Performance of Buildings
Directive
Non-Compliance based Display Energy Certificates (Voluntary DECs)
Even though your building may not currently be required to display
a DEC by law, a voluntary DEC will "show off" your green
credentials and publicise the improvements that you are making in
the areas of energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
Information contained within your Display Energy Certificate
includes:
- Accurate analysis of the energy efficiency rating of each
building
- Ability to compare building energy performance across branches
and against the national average benchmark
- Ability to track and display year-on-year improvements to the
energy performance and carbon reduction of each building
- Identification of potential improvements to current energy
consumption and energy management techniques
Businesses are competing with each other to be seen to reduce their
carbon footprint and save energy. The DEC is a Government
approved and publically recognised method of promoting and
reporting your progress in these areas.
Depending on the size of the organisation, a DEC can identify
£10,000's of fuel bill savings every year. These savings, when
correlated to reduced carbon emissions, will become a powerful
corporate publicity tool with power to influence shareholders and
the public's perception of the business.
In order to always deliver the most effective pricing structure to
our clients, our fees are quoted on an individual basis depending
on location, volume and type of survey.
