The long awaited PAS 2050 (Publicly Available Specification) was
launched on the 29th October 2008. This builds on the
existing life cycle assessment standards ISO 14040 and 14044.
The aim is to provide a common approach such that the carbon
footprint of products and services is conducted on a consistent
basis and provides transparency and effective comparison as a basis
for decision making within the supply chain and for the
consumer.
Sustain works on projects in accordance with the
principles embodied in PAS 2050 and in cooperation with the Carbon
Trust and the Carbon Trust Footprinting Company. As a result
Sustain is well positioned to advise organisations on the
implications of the PAS 2050 specification and how it relates to
existing and emerging specifications.
Sustain works with the Carbon Trust Footprinting Certification Company and has also forged links with the leading UK PAS 2050 verification agencies. We advise on the options available for verification and the processes involved. One of Sustain's clients, LINPAC Allibert, was the first UK company to have its PAS 2050 assessment verified by the certification company, LRQA.
Emerging Standards
Sustain is currently participating in the pilot phase of the pilot programme for the World Resources Institute/World Business Council for Sustainable Development's (WRI/WBCSD) Product Carbon Footprint Standard and actively contributing to the development of the ISO 14067 Carbon Footprint of Products Standard.
