The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which encourages organisations across the world to measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, has appointed Sustain as one of only five consultancies in the UK to work with CDP.

The announcement comes on the same day that CDP publishes its annual Public Procurement Programme report, which reviews energy use of the Government's supply chain.

CDP's seal of approval will see carbon reduction company Sustain helping organisations that sign up to the project to measure their carbon footprints so they can work to reduce them while embedding carbon management into their core business practices.

Around 3,000 organisations across 60 countries disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through the CDP, meaning it holds the largest database of corporate climate change information in the world.

Dr. Jean-Yves Cherruault, emergent markets industry practice leader at Sustain, said: "Helping clients measure and disclose their carbon emissions and deliver carbon reduction strategies is central to what we do, so this partnership with CDP is an excellent fit.

"Measuring carbon emissions is the first important step towards managing and reducing them, so we're excited to have been appointed to help leading businesses tackle this crucial part of the carbon reduction journey."

Organisations that have signed up to CDP include Walmart, Cadbury, Dell and PepsiCo. In 2010, 69 per cent of companies within the FTSE 350 index reported through CDP.

Joanna Lee, chief partnerships officer at CDP, said: "We approved Sustain as a consultancy partner because of its strong track record of working with leading businesses to help them tackle their greenhouse gas emissions over the last decade.

"Sustain has demonstrated that they understand clients' needs and are able to craft bespoke solutions to deliver effective carbon management strategies."

Sustain joins CDP's existing UK consultancy partners of Atkins, Camco, The Carbon Neutral Company and ADAS.
