As an expert in embodied carbon, his focus will be advising clients in the building industry on this issue, which involves looking at how much carbon is released when a building product is manufactured, transported and installed.
Craig will also be advising on carbon footprints and life cycle assessment - a tool that assesses the impact of a product or service across a wide range of environmental issues.
Craig joins from the University of Bath where he created a building materials database that is used by more than 10,000 people worldwide. Known as the Inventory of Carbon and Energy, it captures the embodied energy and carbon of hundreds of building materials.
Craig said: "Sustain's expertise in reducing carbon from buildings is an ideal match for my own skills. I'm looking forward to applying my knowledge to actual projects so I can contribute to making real environmental savings."
Craig has also worked on the London 2012 Olympics, advising on embodied carbon data, and MASDAR - a $22 billion project in Abu Dhabi to create a new city that will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources.
Jean-Yves Cherruault, environmental accounting manager at Sustain, said: "We're delighted to have Craig in our team. He is a leading figure on embodied carbon in the UK and has an established international reputation in this field."
