Sustain has managed to reduce its clients' carbon emissions by a massive 1.2 million tons this year - equivalent to taking 240,000 cars off the road for one year.

Based in Wrington, Sustain is celebrating a successful year working with UK and regional clients across a broad range of public and commercial sectors, including energy supply, education, food and drink, manufacturing and the NHS.

Some of the biggest impacts have come from services that Sustain provides to public and private sector organisations who want to improve the energy efficiency of buildings by installing carbon reduction measures and renewable technologies.  Local authorities and housing associations in the South West have used Sustain to improve insulation, building controls and energy centres across thousands of units of their building stock.

As well as reducing the impact of their buildings, private sector clients such as Allied Bakeries and Sentinel are increasingly employing Sustain to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of specific products and services.

Key clients include national energy companies, Marks & Spencer, Bellway Homes, The Cooperative Group, BAE Systems, University of Bath, Honeywell, and Royal Sun Alliance.

Sustain has grown into a substantial business since it was founded 12 years ago and has recently been recognised as one of the top performing businesses in the region, being awarded Beacon company status by the South West Regional Development Agency. The company now has 60 staff, a turnover of £7m and ambitious growth plans.

It has just made two new key staff appointments; Annie Brown, who heads up the building services team which specialises in low energy advice and design for buildings and Jean-Yves Cherruault who leads the environmental accounting team, helping businesses calculate, interpret, manage and reduce their carbon emissions.

Sustain's chief executive Tobias Parker is optimistic about the company's future prospects:

"We see major opportunities in the market for businesses like ours, as the government presses ahead with initiatives to meet its carbon reduction targets. What sets us apart from many others nationally is that we are able to offer a full service from initial measurement of carbon, right through to installing the carbon reduction measures".
