Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)

The EU driven Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, or ESOS, is a mandatory compliance scheme for large businesses and organisations.

Sustain have worked with a number of organisations to ensure compliance with the regulations and have an excellent track record of delivering comprehensive and cost effective solutions. Our expertise in providing robust energy efficiency measures allows us to go beyond simply ticking a box and make the most of the ESOS opportunity.

The first ESOS deadline has now passed but it is not too late to comply! Reduce your risk of receiving a fine of up to £50,000 from the Environment Agency by becoming ESOS compliant with Sustain. We work with you to find the fastest and most suitable route to compliance, and we’ll project manage the entire programme so you can focus on your business operations.

Contact us today to explore your best – and quickest – route to compliance.

Eligibility Criteria

Over 10,000 businesses, charities and trusts in the UK are eligible for ESOS. There are some exceptions but the primary inclusion criteria applies to all large UK enterprises that:

  • Employ over 250 people
  • Have an annual turnover in excess of €50 million (£35 million)
  • Have a balance sheet in excess of €43 million (£30 million)

If your business is eligible, compliance is mandatory and must be met by the 5th December deadline. The Environment Agency has the power to issue fines of up to £50,000 for failure to comply.
