SmartHeat Private is a venture launched by Sustain in mid-January 2010, providing flange and valve insulation for communal boiler rooms within the private housing sector. In conjunction with the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme we are able to provide landlords and property managers with a funded offering.

Fell Reynolds is strongly committed to minimising the impact on the environment from their activities as a landlord, as well as improving the quality of life for the tenants.
After a series of discussions with Fell Reynolds, authorisation was given for us to run the Private SmartHeat Programme on "The Gateway" flats in Dover, a property managed by Fell Reynolds. The Gateway development consists of 230 flats, all served by one large communal boiler plant. Improving the efficiency of this plant is a significant contribution not only to cost saving but also to minimising the impact on the environment.
solution
The programme commenced when The Gateway was surveyed, and a variety of un-insulated valves, pipe work and hot elements were indentified. Once indentified, we produced an Energy Savings Report to show how energy could be saved by fitting SmartHeat Insulation; the tailor-made insulation jackets were fitted and the installation was complete.
outcome
The Gateway site yielded 77 un-insulated flanges and valves, as well as 15m of un-lagged pipe work.
By insulating these measures the savings are significant, with energy savings of 357,068 kWh/annum and projected cost savings of £8,569.63/annum.
For this project we have been able to secure CERT funding. Owing to the level of financial savings, the payback period for the customer is just 3 months. The Gateway flats was the first project to go ahead under SmartHeat Private Programme but there are many other properties in the pipeline.
