July sees the start of Sustain’s 10th year in business and to mark the occasion Sustain are launching 10 campaigns to run alongside usual business. '10 Things for 10 Years' as it has been coined by staff, include action groups to support policy changes, promote education, and demonstrate how making a change can result in win-win scenarios. Many of the groups will be working to engage the public with the activities of the campaigns. Tree planting, a photography competition, education talks, carbon offsetting and awareness raising exhibitions at local fairs are just some of the campaigns that will be running during the anniversary year. “According to leading scientific opinion, we have a finite number of years to make a real difference to the causes of climate change,” said Tobias Parker, director of Sustain. “Therefore to celebrate our tenth year, we are planting a number of ideas in the hope that they will grow into significant movements over time.” Sustain have already started work on one campaign by participating in Jam Busting June. Members of staff have pledged to travel to work by more sustainable means – walking, cycling, running or lift sharing to support the council-led initiative. Over the month, staff saved 582 kg of CO2 by sharing lifts, cycling and walking. As well as setting up campaigns to highlight the effect and cause of climate change, staff are being treated to a special evening celebration which will include music, food and aerial performances by Bristol based company Circomedia.
